How do we connect to "the other"?

In a divided world, I'm documenting physical evidence of all the ways we imitate and repeat patterns in one another— through lines and shapes that create life and meaning, we connect beyond race, religion, nationality, gender, age, politics, and even beyond time.

Strands that bind us, patterns we share, they run everywhere— in the intricate creases and shades of our skin, the plant-like shapes of our organs, the patterns of cells, and deeper. The artifacts we create in maps, literature, music, even in technology—they imitate the patterns we hold, they leave marks of relationships, dreams and ideas that tell stories.  Connections exist not merely in art, nature, and writing, but in math equations, old sheet music, discarded art, in packaging, graffiti, newsprint, in unedited personal letters, and finally in the boundaries designed either to divide us or bring us together.

There's much to learn through researching the past and present, then creating something new. If I'm lucky, my work will illuminate meaning that might transform, or better yet, that will make new meaning alive in each viewer.

On this page, a few of my recent fine art works from two series are displayed.
